Do you think the message in Maugham's story is the same as or different from the message in the Aesop fable of the ant and the grasshopper? Explain
Its obvious that the message on the story by Maugham is different from Aesop fable. The Aesop fable leads to what more commonly would happen if you act like a grasshopper(lazy, ignorant and idle) homeless and unhappy. Maugham story gives you a different and rarely common situation that you might possibly see this situation in resent days, with is acting like a grasshopper might bring you the opportunity to find some one wealthy that wouldn't mind sharing their belongings with you. At the end it seems that it doesn't matter what you do in life, because you might get lucky and end up with a good life.

“As It Was in the Beginning” p.35, Question #2
What ended her new happiness? As most of us know Esther old
happiness was reuniting her self with her red skin family but once she met
Laurence everything change. Laurence who was Father Paul nephew grew up with
Esther as best mate. Esther started falling in love at the same time Laurence
also was falling in love with her. They both grew up old enough to get marry
but that was when Esther happiness started to collapse. Laurence decide to tell
his uncle that he wants to marry Esther and Father Paul responded “ Laurence,
my boy, your future is the dearest thing to me for all earthly interest. Why,
you can’t marry this girl-no, no sit, sit until I have finished.” Also he
wanted Laurence to marry the Hudson’s Bay factor’s Daughter, who was white.
Father kept explaining to Laurence how he couldn’t marry a Redskin girl, who
mother is hopelessly uncivilized and father who has a “dash of French” and
mainly Esther was half-breed. Esther was already feeling like all her happiness
would collapse on her, because Father Paul got to the point and brain washes
his nephews brain by convincing him that he should marry the Hudson’s Bay factor’s
Daughter. So to finally over kill her happiness Esther decide to kill Laurence
with small flint arrow-head that had some snake venom on it, she scratched his
wrist like a snake bike with the arrow head. That’s how Esther family happiness
ended by Father Paul Discrimination.
